Thanked: 4Adoration adoration
Haven't been around for a bit because things have been just silly around my place, but I had to share this one.
Some of you might remember that about 2 years ago I purchased an Adoration form a local flea market with the full intention of restoring it to usable condition. It was rusted and had broken scales; in need of some general TLC. Shortly after that Deadrift sold me a twin Adoration. The idea had been to use this one for the scales for the first, however after receiving it, I found it to be in general good condition and couldn't bring myself to cannibalize it. I cleaned it up and have been using it since. Thanks Deadrift.
Now for the original. I finally found a set of scales from "some vendor in Canada", had a hard time bringing myself to buy them as the shipping was about 110% of the cost of the scales. This is no complaint against the vendor, just a quirk of the situation. I finally had to decide if the restoration was worth it (if I wanted it bad enough). After being packed in oil for almost 2 years, the first picture is what I started with. The last is what I shaved with about 3 hours ago.

looks nice and clean. is there much of a gap between the wedge and the blade when it's closed?

Thanked: 4Unfortunately it's about 3/8", but when closed doesn't really look that much. The scales are the only set of blues that I could find and they're made for 6/8 blades. For me, blues were the only color option since I pretty well know that this will be my "goto" razor. I'm more comfortable with the 4/8 and grew up using a rounded point. The Adorations were actually made with a square point, but this one had a chip that lent itself perfectly to be rounded. While the one that Deadrift sold me is the right size and quite comfortable in my hand, I will probably only use it occasionally. As for the scales being oversize, I'm comfortable with that because when closed, the blade really isn't dwarfed by the scales and the extra size seems to balance out the blade nicely

Thanked: 4Oh, and I just saw how the picture makes the blade look smaller… it's an "optical delusion"…
