Thanked: 3226Help with Boker date and origin
Just got this and did a light cleaning. Have not seen a Boker with these markings. The blade is 13/16 with jimps on the bottom. The blade is etched with "Silber Steel" flanked on either side with the Boker tree surmounted with "trade mark". Beneath that "extra hollow ground warranted" Excuse the poor photos.
The tang has the Boker tree stamp and "H. BOKER & Co" with the word "ring" under it on the show side. Nothing stamped on the reverse side. Nowhere on the blade is stamped the country of origin.
It has very nice ivory colured scales, not yellow as in the photo, with the words "Bokers Brand" seperated by the Boker tree.
Am I correct in thinking it is pre 1891 as it has no country of origin? Thanks for any help you can give.

I am curious about the ring on the tang and waiting to see what others say. The scales look brand new compared to the razor.

There have been threads devoted to the "Hamburg Ring", and what that denoted. Not sure that 'Ring' on this Boker relates to that, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Thanked: 3226Thanks for all the help so far fellas. I am going cross eyed looking at makers stamps but can't match any yet for a build era. Yea the scales look good for their age. I am guessing by the style they are the same vintage as the blade but could be wrong there too.
She'll be a bit shorter now that I have the chips out of the blade and starting to hone her up.
Bob
Yea Jimmy the thought that the "ring" might be connected somehow to "hamburg ring" crossed my mind. I have not seen that on a Boker before.

Thanked: 4249Very nice razor Bob, dont think the missing country of origins apply's to this razor, the Boker tree stamp and fancy scales make me think its from around the turn of the century. When looking at Boker catalogs you see a lot of these fancy scales razors and most are from early 1900 give or take a few.
Seems that this blade was made in Germany, pretty sure that when Boker started making cutlery in the US, they went with Boker U.S.A. Nevertheless a nice find, Enjoy!

Bob, very nice Boker razor!
Here is some info about the company and its marks - H.Boker & Co, Solingen.
I found also a razor with a similar handle in the Boker's set (right):
And the razors with similar handles were offered first time in 1897.
"A fancy celluloid H.Boker razor was also offered in the 1897 Sears, Roebuck & Co. catalog. The front if a similar handle is molded with a ribbon from one end to the other. Wording in the ribbon reads, Boker's Brand with a tree illustration between the words. The razor's fancy black handle is molded in a leafy scroll".
