    Default skinny runt

After the disaster I had with my previous skinny razor I have been on the look out for. A replacement. Yesterday this little chap turned up and to my surprise I think it's sporting ivory scales one of which is sadly cracked but I am thinking it may be repairable with a bit of tactical sanding fir ivory dust and epoxy it back ?

    Neat little razor.

    Looks like ivory to me.

Not sure about ivory dust and epoxy. CA might be a better solution. I'd ask Bill, ( Pixelfixed ) or one of the other ivory gurus about it.

Whatever you do, don't oil the scales before you try to fix it.

Definately ivory scales. I know that Ivory takes CA (super glue) very well, but I haven't seen anyone try the dust trick with ivory before. Let us know how it goes

Got to watch out for those skinny razors. You may sell your collection and rethink your opinion on what's best. If pixel or sharptonn doesn't happen along send 1 of them a pm. Go to ivory specialists.

I have a matched pair of Joseph Rodgers & Sons with Ivory scales, one of which was cracked at the wedge end. All I did was apply CA (Gorilla Super Glue) then when dry sanded until it was fairly smooth and flat. The crack can still be seen (see pic) but its not going anywhere. If you work very fast (have your dust ready before hand) you might mix some Ivory dust with the CA so the crack won't show as bad. The sand smooth.

If you try this please let us know if it works, the info would be very helpful. Good luck!

I'm defiantly going to give it a try, my ocd won't allow me to live with it as they are now

I'm working on the theory if it all goes tits up I'll make some new scales out of ebony and use the ivory as inlay material. Maybe add some mother of pearl into the mix aswell.

I'll let you know how it goes

Here's the way they fixed them "back in the day".

That is a piece of nickel silver. It has no seam so it was made to fit and then pinned. It works fine and I'm not messing with it.

Just an update on this. I tried the epoxy loaded with ivory dust and while the crack does appear less prominent it is none the less still visible, it was worth a try and the repair is good and strong but it wont mask a crack :P
