Have to say that I'm still not totally comfortable with the grip, but then again, if we wanted a simple life we would go back to cartridges I suppose.
I had heard of the potential scratching issue. I first used a bench strop, then an older hanging strop and then and only then the Kanayama. So far so good. But then none of my strops have any cupping so far.

I took the plunge as well and purchased an Iwasaki (a little overboard I know) but I couldn't help myself when I found one that was in stock! After getting it honed at SRD it shaves like a dream. For now, I'm using both sides of the blade too. At first, I tried using the "proper" side of the blade on both sides of my face, but found it very awkward for me...and I found out how well it cuts skin!! Didn't feel a thing!! For stropping, I'm using a SRD paddle strop and it works great (not just for Kamisoris). Enjoy!

I tried using the "proper side" for about 30 seconds and then just used it the same way I do a western straight. Right hand for right side of face WTG, left hand for left side WTG, switch for ATG which means I am using the "wrong side" half of the time. I can't tell any difference.
