    Default Dubl Duck Length?

I picked up a Wonderedge at an antique show for $10. The original scales had been replaced with plain celluloid and had a cotter pin holding the pivot joint together. The steel was in very good shape. Weeks later I won an auction for a badly frowned Wonderedge with good scales thinking I would put the good blade in the good scales. When I got the good scales unpinned I found the good blade was almost 1/2" too long for the scales. The third pin was still in the right place so I don't think the scales were shortened. Did the Wonderedge come in different lengths?

    Two things:

    1. What is the width of your blade?

    2. You say that had "good scales"? Any possibility that the scales could have shrunken or warped?

The blade is 13/16 wide and 3-1/8" long from the back of the heel to the tip of the round point. The good scales were not warped and the frowned blade closed to center. Pic is of the good scales.

It happens. In my case, I have 2 sets left out of 6 sets of unused replacement scales (no rot) for Satinedges. I have seen Satinedges fit the other 4 perfectly. Then, I bought a Satinedge off Ebay which had a rotten red wedge deforming the scales. Figured to pop it in a set after polishing off the shelf-wear on the scales and shining up the blade. NO Way. This thing is 13/16 and too large for these standard scales! Bigger model. Longer and wider than most!

My Wonderedge is an 11/16 Square Point and the it is around 3 inches long from back of the heel to the tip of the round point. It looks like your 13/16 is 1/8 of inch longer than my 11/16. I do not think that your 13/16 would fit my scales.

I believe that there are smaller Wonderedges like 5/8 and perhaps 9/16. Perhaps those blades are even shorter, as would be the corresponding scales?

What was the original size of the warped blade on the good scales?

Unsure of your question, but I like to measure from the pivot hole to the tip of blade as far as scales go. Bigger razors also have longer tangs!
The NOS scales will tolerate a bit smaller than 4 1/2 inches, and the larger blade needs a bit more than 4 5/8 inches.

I am guessing it was at least 6/8. It had a lot of hone wear to go with the nasty frown. When I finished straightening the edge there was just under 5/8 left and I took a good 1/8 off the blade.

Pivot hole to tip is 4-5/8 so I have one of the larger specimens. I will continue to look for replacement scales and just wanted to know how much variation there might be. thanks for the info.
