    Thank you all! I believe the handle is made of celluloid, if I rub it it has a funny smell which I read was something that happens with celluloid. If the razor is that old it may have been handed down to his grandfather from his great grandfather, that's cool to think of. I will put it in the shadow box and hang it where we can appreciate it. Thanks again for your help.

    Angie, that date is just a guess on my part. If those are celluloid scales, then you should be aware of something called cell rot. The scales start to break down and off gas a chemical that causes the steel to deteriorate and rust. Putting it in an enclosure will only exacerbate the situation. I have an idea that would save the integrity of the scales and allow you to display the razor if you would be willing to let me try.
