    ARGHHHH!!!
This mornings shave was to be a 7/8 Aust with a new Kent brush and ToB Eton cream. I had just finished honing a Henckels 472 in yellow Friodur scales I picked up and decided to test shave that razor as well. I wrapped the 472 in an alcohol soaked towel while I stopped the Aust. When I went to pull the Henckels from the towel the scales snapped at the pin. Both sides, clean break at the same time.
I am not a happy shaver today L

Yea, I wonder if the alcohol soak made the scales brittle enough to snap like that.

After honing I always rinse the blade, dry it then soak a washcloth in rubbing alcohol and wrap it around the razor (not the scales) with the scales open to disinfect it. I usually leave it for 5 to 10 minutes the carefully open then towel and pull the razor out holding the scales and pinching the blade to wipe as I go. No force is used. I have done the with every razor I have honed. This morning the scales just popped. I had honed it in two sessions, stropped it last night and this morning I need to make or buy some scales. Sad

eBay seller:21far21 does beautiful work making scales. From cedar to exotic woods. He is a good guy, fair and a fast shipper. From the great state of Texas.
There are several makers on eBay.
Making them yourself is not as hard as you may think. There is a great guide in the library .

If you picked up the razor and pinched the two scales together that might cause them to snap at the hinge pin if they were brittle.

You could always post a Want to Buy in the classified section especially if you are looking for original scales.

If it's a 7/8, I have a set of curly bubinga w/ a red g10 wedge, and a set of purple heart w/ a jade g10 wedge that will fit. If interested, PM me. You can see the pics of the buginga on my profile, the purpleheart is the same design as well.
