Thanked: 14"E. Guthner" razor
I recently converted my father to straight shaving and he has been stricken with a serious case of RAD. He has found some great razors, though. He found one today at an old gun store of all places. It is marked E. Guthner on one side of the tang and has the eagle and snake on the other tang. It looks very similar to the ERN eagle and snake. Anyone out there have any information on this maker? And, let me apologize in advance for the lack of razor porn. He has the razor with him. It's a 5/8 with a barbers notch. I'll try to get a picture a bit later. TIA for any info you have.

Thanked: 3164Hi,
I know of Luckhaus & Gunther as razor makers, and Carl Friedrich Ern as a maker with the Eagle and Sword mark, but not an E. Guthner with an Eagle and Sword logo. Sure that E. Guthner is not a re-seller/importer/hardware company/cutlery company/barbers, etc, who happened to have Ern razors made for him, struck with his own mark?
A photo might be helpful, indeed! If just to check the spelling and the logo.
Regards,
Neil

Thanked: 14I've added a couple of pictures. As you said, Neil, I was thinking Güthner may have had Ern razors produced for him, but my searching has turned up nothing. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.

Thanked: 3228I did a quick search and came up with this Gunther E. Rothenberg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . It mentions that his father Erich Joseph Rothenberg was an importer residing in New York. It is a long shot but with the family's German roots the father could have imported German Ern razors among other things.
