Robert Williams 8/8
Robert made this razor for me quite a while ago now, but what with the parcel getting siezed by customs, and me being overseas for a week, I've only just received it and had a look. No test shave carried out as yet.
It's an 8/8 with oblique/spike point, with hammered back/spine and hammered tang, all polished up to a mirror finish. Handle is made of stag horn.
Nice isn't it.
I'll test it later or tomorrow morning so I'm hoping it shaves as well as it looks.

No kidding, it goes great with the brush and scuttle. Not that I could afford one at the moment, but how does one go about contracting Robert for a razor? Is there a long waiting list? Do you send him a design or does he have options you can just choose from? I love his work, and would love to get my hands on one of these babies when I am well established and have a little money to blow.

Thanked: 9Nice!
So Robert ships them shave-ready now? Because I remember some of the earlier buyers had to hone themselves.
Cheers

I'm not sure actually, thinking back to when I ordered it Robert never said if it would be shave ready or not.
I cracked and had a test shave with it just now and all I can say is this razor is definately shave ready. In fact it's about as sharp as any razor I've handled so far to date, which means it can just about split atoms.

Thanked: 346I got his first one, and didn't *have* to hone it myself - it was pretty good as shipped, but it wasn't "my" edge. Same thing with my latest RW razor.
The only razors I haven't honed on sight are ones from honemeisters where I'm using them as a benchmark.

Thanked: 324I hone all the custom razors before they go out, but I don't test shave with them, so I send them in what should be shave-ready condition, but I don't guarantee "shave ready" because everyone's idea of shave-ready can be different and I've been told before that these razors can actually get "too sharp". I'd rather underpromise and overdeliver than go the other way around.
