Thanked: 0Barber Notch
I was just wondering what the purpose of the barber notch is on razors. When i first saw one i thought the blade was damaged... at least now i know thats not true, but i still dont' know what its for. Can somebody
enlighten me?

Rob, you may want to do a search on it. There are plenty of theories like easier opening, better line of sight and pure aesthetics. This questions pops up from time to time, so there should be a few threads on it.

Thanked: 0I've heard that it was to make the pass directly underneath the nose easier. You would put the point of your finger in the notch and then shave. Makes sense to me, because it make the razor easier to handle, though I've never owned a razor with a notch.

Thanked: 2when i was staioned in Cyprus , I had a straight razor shave in a barbers shop from an old chinese woman, she the notch to place the tip of the blade in the nostril and with a slight turn of her wrist she shaved the hairs inside the opening of my nostril
I've spoken to service men who served in Malaysia and Hong Kong and they have had the same done to them when being shaved.
