Revisor 8/8
I just received my new revisor 8/8. Awesome shave out of the box
When I read the care instructions included with the razor it says for 8/8 razors to keep the spine 1-2 mm off the strop when stropping. Has anyone else read or seen the care sheet that comes with the revisor razors? It continues on about proper blade angle. To me this sounds like a recipe for disaster"The best way to have a good idea is to have a lot of ideas." -Linus Pauling

Disaster is an understatement. I can't really see the logic of that technique but I can surely see the real possibility of hacking a strop to pieces unless you have the hands of a watchmaker or surgeon....

I have one, they are superb blades, congratulations on a great buy!
I strop the blade the exact same as all my others, so just do what you normally do. Can you post a pic...last I checked Revisor had two 8/8 models, which did you choose?

Congrats on a great razor. I have two Revisors, a 6/8 and a 7/8. I don't know anything about keeping the spine off the strop. I would avoid that for the already known reasons and rack it up to a translation issue (German to English?). I don't see how you can harm the razor by stropping in the traditional manner yet risk ruining the edge by stropping with the spine off of the strop. Also, have a good look at the edge. You may have gotten a shave off of it out of the box but the two I have needed work to get the best out of them. The edges were sharp but rather crude. They take awesome edges. Congrats and good luck. And one last thing. Where's the pic? Is this a new policy around here of no pics? We want a pic.

Thanked: 3228Congrats on your new razor. I'd say the same as the others about stropping the razor, carry on as per normal with the spine on the strop. I think OCD shaver is on to something with the thought of a poor German to English translation. Could they have meant to keep the spine 1-2 mm off your face when shaving?

I remember seeing a post on SRP recently regarding stropping with the spine slightly lifted... Sorry I cannot remember the thread title, however some people reported better shaves I think, but that may have been for wedge razors. Sorry Im a bit vague, as a beginner I read the thread but didn't pay too much attention as that level of stropping precision is well above my pay grade... I just remember there were some positive comments and made a mental note to look into it in 6 months.
It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice

Stock photo of the razor, my scales are a bit lighter but not much.
8/8
My other Revisor 6/8 shaved well out of the box also, when I looked at it under 40x magnification the edge was not perfect either."The best way to have a good idea is to have a lot of ideas." -Linus Pauling

I strop my Revisor 8/8 as normal and never had a problem.
