    Default Origin seems wrong

I hope I put this question in the right section. I am new to Forums of any kind.
I was given a nice old straight razor as a gift. it is dark blue or black handles. and each end has silver colored caps with a cross like design .the tang is stamped on one side F.A. Clauberg's above Tonsorial Gem above German Makr?

other side reads Joplin C & Special Co. above Joplin, Mo.
I have searched for information on it but all the F.A. Clauberg's I can find are New York. can anyone tell me why this one is different? Is it a fake or copycat?
    thanks

Welcome! Pics are helpful. Clauberg was an importer and dealer to many smaller businesses such as drug stores and hardware concerns across the country. Joplin bought razors from Clauberg with their name stamped on them to sell locally.
The vast majority of these 'hardware store' varieties are fine razors. If in good condition, your's should be as well.

    I rest my case.

Nice scales, Alma, but the blade is done, IMO. Just too worn-out. Not a big-ticket item in great shape, really. The scales would be awesome on any vintage blade with better condition. JMO

Yes, looks like it has a frown up to the stabilizer...

It doesn't sound like a fake. There were many razors that would have wring on both sides of the tang. It was probably made by one company for the other.

It is good if you are interested in Straight razors. It is a good thing it was only a gift. There are many places on here to learn on what to look for if buying one. You don't want to buy one if it sworn a lot at the spine from honing. You also don't want to buy one with a frown on it rather than a smile. A smile is always a good thing. Also look very closely for cracks in the blades & you don't want to waste your money on a chipped razor as well. Please feel free to ask any questions, we're here to help others out.

Wow! That shoulder is going to have to be ground from the looks of it.
