Thanked: 522Newbie razor question
________________________________________________
Many times we have had new guys ask which razor should I buy? Someone generally answers that question with the likes of Genco, Geneva, Case, C-Mon, Torrey, Theirs Issard, and on and on. I would like to add a razor to the recommended list that I consider to be a special blade. The DOVO Best Quality 1/2 Hollow razor. I have recently honed one of these razors for a member and was impressed with the shave I got.
So I ordered one for myself and just honed and shaved with it moments ago. BINGO!!! I love it. The half hollow is a sturdy frame and is easy to hone. Just what I was looking for..............!!....JERRY
OOOPS! Pass the styptic please.

Jimps top and bottom help when starting out as well plus they can be had for a fair price by shipping around

It's a great razor and for the price and I think it makes the best new starter razor out there. Now if they would only ship them fully honed for the beginners.

Jerry,
A Dovo 5/8 half-hollow Best was the first new razor I bought when I got back into straight razor shaving.
Years later, it is still my rotation, still one of my favourites and I am always surprised at how it shaves way above it's price point
It is also very easy to maintain - it is very easily honed and responds superbly to CrOx - all a bonus for a new straight shaver.
Have fun
Best regards

This was my very first straight razor, the first one I have shaved with the day I decided to go into straight razors, about 12 years ago. Not exactly this one - mine is Dovo 101 6/8 with cream scales - and I agree it is a razor I would suggest to a beginner, mainly for its affordable price.
Easy to hone and to maintain, in my opinion is not the best shaver around, but however a good razor. Definitely a razor I would suggest a beginner to start with.
By the way: I still own this razor, I still use it and it is part of my quite long (maybe too long) rotation. The RazorGuy - StraightRazorChannel on Youtube and Google+
