I'm trying to prove the same to my wife. I have 7.
I started in January this year and have about 50. Scared to think how I would reply in another year. I'm not married so I do as I wish lol. Of the 50 or so, some are just cheapies like the Wald solingen platypus etc. My collection isn't as respectable as Phrank's, Voidmonser's and other members.
I have quit buying razors. Well today I won't buy one yesterday I did. I have just over 20 at the moment. 14 in rotation. That does not include the Saftey razors.
The OP never said how many he owns...
If you know how many you have.... It's too few.
Too many. It takes me longer to decide which razor to use than it takes me to shave.........
Less than I would if I didn't keep giving them away :)
Mike
No exact number count. But about 300
Attachment 180760
12 straights and two DE.
I think as of today the count is 7 DE, 27 SR but I aint done yet
I have 8 razors and 4 blades as projects . The only ones I'm looking for is a nice wedge and a Bruno alien..... Oh I'm also looking for the $$$$ for those lol
Only 17 straights so far. :)
I too have no idea how many razors I have. More than I need to keep a sensible shaving rotation. I am thinking about selling some off in order to get funds for another passion. However it is a thought I have had for over a year and I have sold three in that time and bought probably 20. If I could get the sell portion of the buying and selling razors in an attempt to shave with many and own a few...
More than I need, 6 currently is the answer. Never know if the desire to snag another one comes along. I do want to bring back one to the den that I traded years ago, I recently acquired one in the same manner, a Puma #89. That is perhaps the only one other that I could convince myself to reacquire. That would make 7, a sensible number by any standards no?
Looks like I'm on the low end of the spectrum here, but I'm fairly green having taken up straight shaving only 9 months ago. That said, I have 4 razors in rotation, 2 vintage/project razors, and 2 that I've donated to friends in an attempt to spread the gospel of "stop using that disposable plastic rubbish"
Thanks for this thread, though. I will be showing this to my wife later!
I have far more than I should have.
I really should start selling some, but find myself still buying more.
Maybe someone will start a Razors Anonymous!!
I have 10 on my rotation and 7 to hone training.
I've only been shaving with a straight for 1 month. Right now I have 3. One was bought to learn how to hone and one was bought to shave with since I chipped the first one. It's crazy but I look at straight razors on a daily basis to potential buy more. It's very addicting. I had 1 DE razor for 2 years and never wanted to purchase another.
11 at the moment, planning on a Dovo Ebinholtz in the near future.
My excuse to my wife is that I'm searching for the blade size, style, and steel that I like and when I find it I'll pare down to 3 of those. I'm not sure that she believes me since I said the same thing about the hundreds of wood chisels and gouges that I have.
I have 30-35. I've been trying to sell off one for every new one I acquire. I'm happy with that much variety. Beyond that I find that razors just end up sitting around waiting for their turn to be used.
14 and waiting on 2 more Bruno/Glen customs to be finished. Tc
6 - one of which doesn't count as it is a gold dollar that I just got to play around with, another of which I am just holding for a friend, so i own 4 actual razors but am in possession of 6.
At one time, 130,down to 10,all I will ever need.
182 razors at the moment. Hopefully increasing in the future. I am a collector and I use them all for shaving.
I have around 25 that I look at, molest, trim arm hair with and say, "oh ya!! That ones good!" and shave with. 15 or so on my work bench staring at me saying, " please make me pretty and sharp, I'll be a real good one and you know it!!"
I've only been into shaving as a hobby for just under 4 months. Got my first DE from my Son for Father's Day this year.
I'm like a virgin that finally.....well you know..... and now just can't get enough. It doesn't help I have an addictive personality.
23 DE
2 shave ready SR
13 project SR
So I guess 38.
Oh wait, are we counting purchased and not yet received in the mail? Hahaha
Six currently in the rotation, 8-9 that will be in the rotation when I get them cleaned up/ repaired / honed. And the rest will be used as my guinea pigs to learn on before messing around with the nicer vintages that I plan on keeping. So right now about 24 total
I pared it way back, 3. Henckels 17, Filarmonica 14, and W&B 8/8 Spike Point Hollow.
You boys are going about it all wrong.
Tell your wives how many POUNDS of razors you have rather than the NUMBER of razors.
5 lbs is a LOT of razors but it doesn't sound like it when you answer her question with "only FIVE dear."
My wife knows better but she doesn't care as long as I use at least one of 'em on a regular basis. :rofl2:
She didn't bat an eye when I told her I had 34 more razors coming in that I'd gotten a trade. :D
She just wanted to know if I FINALLY had enough junkers to make her a wind chime out of old blades.
Got to thank BRUCE for that idea. :rofl2::rofl2:
Tell her you'd give them all up but they keep you out of the bars and away from strippers :)
Bought 63 str8s, sold 1, Passed a few on as gifts etc now back to under 60
Consisting of a week or so of W&B, a couple weeks worth of Sheffields, another couple of weeks of Germans, about a weeks worth of Americans , a couple a Frechies and a couple weeks worth in the shed waiting in line and 4 still in the mail 2 of which have been nearly 6 weeks and not even in Aus yet (poxy global shipping)
All of this has just made me jealous... and worried that when I have more money, they'll be no more straights because they've been hoarded up by the likes of all you folks. Thanks for the poll - very interesting!
