Thanked: 19Dovo Full Hollow Carbon Steel 5/8 Straight Razor
This seems like a basic straight razor, and is on Amazon for about $100. I believe its model is "Best Quality". Any thoughts on whether this would be good or bad for a first straight razor? I've been using a Merkur DE for about 3 years. Considering taking the plunge.

Thanked: 14It should be a good razor, but there are other online stores that will sell it to you for the same price but already professionally honed. Some will also give you a certificate for a free second honing after you mess up the edge while learning to strop.

Thanked: 19Thanks AZBronco. I notice in the comments on Amazon the general complaint that it needed to be honed, which not everyone is up to (including me, I suppose).

I would start of with a used one from the Classified section here. I bought my razor here and received it shave ready. there's actually a nice one for $58.00 and its probably better than the entry level Dovo.

Thanked: 4826The classifieds here constantly turning. They are usually such good deals they don't last long, so be sure to check often.

Straight razor designs sells the same razor for around $90 and it comes with a free hone as well as a second free hone.
