Beard length and duration of blade sharpness
If you shave every day does your razor stay sharp longer then if you shave every couple of days? Does longer hair impact the sharpness of the razor?

Thanked: 375I would think that it wouldn't just because the edge doesn't know how long or short the whiskers are. Although something makes me think that a shorter whisker maybe more resistant or rigid (flex) than say a longer one. I still don't see how that would impact the edge, the edge like I said is still going to cut at the same spot on the hair, might be at a different angle depending on the length so maybe that would affect the edge. who knows.....

no and no beard length does not matter to the blade it still cuts it at the skin,, as to lasting longer , I doubt it ,, as long as you dry the blade well corrosion wont take the edge away tc

Thanked: 3224I doubt hair length has any effect on the number of shaves you get out of a blade before it is dull.

I have not noticed any difference on a straight. Maybe on a disposable because without rinsing every pass, the hair/cream stays right there and you may be cutting more than the hair that's on your face.

Thanked: 375I wanted to add, a "Newby" affects the edge. Double edge safety razors like the slant where made to cut at an angle through the hair instead of taking on the whole hair at once
(if I understand what I read else where). So I would think shaving the same way would apply to a straights edge....and the edge lasting longer or notLast edited by Trimmy72; 10-13-2014 at 12:24 PM.

Will the TOTAL number of comfortable shaves decrease by shaving every other day instead of shaving every day?
Probably not.
But:
There could be a decrease in the number of comfortable shaves, IME, by shaving every other day rather than shaving every day. The variables are whether ALL the whiskers grow at the same rate and how close (number of passes) one shaves.
My whiskers do not grow at the same rate. The chin hair grows faster than the sideburn hair. So, for me, if the sideburn hair has not grown enough to be cut on the second day, but has grown enough to be cut on the third day, then the blade would correspondingly cut more hair by shaving every other day. This is also assuming you shave at the same time each day and follow the same post-shave ritual.
Hence, the edge would give a higher number of shaves by shaving every day. YMMV
Would I be able to tell the difference? Probably not.
