I was under the impression from what I have read that the one with USMC on the blade is from the Spanish-American War and the one with USMC on the tang was from WWI.

Now there is a layered Camo G10 with OD/Black/Tan layers that you could work into something interesting too with a sanding drum and a dremel..

Plus one on the Kabar idea that'll look sweet if it can be pulled off well.

From what I have read, it is my understanding that the one with USMC was from the Spanish-American War and also they were produced during WW1. The blades on these, again from what I have read, did not hold up well from moisture. I have not seen many of these that looked very good. The second one marked USMC on the tang was from the WW2 era and had a coating on the blade that held up better. I recently bought one and after I used Flitz polish it looked great. Sent it off to have it honed and I shaves great. I would like to find the earlier version.

Also, I read somewhere these were not "regulation issue" razors. Clauss produced them but they were not sold through the USMC.

BTW, my son just graduated from Parris Island in October (3rd BN, India Co.) He is at Camp Pendleton going through RECON training. Tell your son I appreciate what he does. Being a Drill Instructor has to be tough.

I have alway been told the same info you have only the 2nd was From the First World War, I need to go back over to the Musem on Parris Island again and see if they have any more info. There is also a retired SgtMaj. that I need to talk with he knows from what I've been told but haven't been able to get in touch with him yet. I have also read on here someone contacted the Clauss Shear Works and they had no info. I was in the museum on Parris Island over Thanksgiving no one to ask but they do not have one on Display the only thing they have is a Double Edge and it's in the WWI area. Although there is a picture I have seen of a gear lay out with a Straight Razor in it from around WWII not saying it is or isn't a Clauss no way to tell there is also a picture from the same time frame with a double edge I would really like to find out for sure

If and when I get my paws on a USMC blade I will change the scales to a blue with red blood stripe brass pins and wedge

This is what I had in mind. While a different than the more modern and dress uniform ideas above. Canvas micarta conveys the sense of a pre 1990s army kit.

I remember wearing my Grandpa's WW 2 issue green canvas utility belt and Canteen holster when I was a kid.
