Thanked: 1New to the game (probably an old song)
I have been wanting to start straight razor shaving for a while (I'm sure this is an old song for most). I was wondering where I could find a nice razor to begin with? I bought a vintage one that needs to be honed but not sure how good it is. I do not want to spend $130+ for a new one without knowing the basics of the game. I am frequently in Florida and California if that helps. Tried the classifieds but it is unavailable. THANKS!

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 1I am very grateful with all of your help and kindness. Hopefully I can get going before New years! Here is a pic of a razor I bought in a local antique store (Puerto Rico). Whenever I go to CA I go to Sonoma County (Santa Rosa). I believe thats quite a ways from OC. I have no idea of the quality of this razor or if it's worth using LOL Thankfully there's an abundance of experts here.

Thanked: 1184Only about 500 miles out of the way :<0) We will see if anybody from up there chimes in to give you some hands on advice, maybe.
The blade needs a lot of work. The problem is in the curvature of the edge. It should be straight or smiling in the other direction some. It could be fixed but the question is " is it worth it ? " Does it have a name on it ?Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 1Nope, no name no info. Hopefully I can find someone. I also visit the Tampa Bay and Ocala, FL area, but I will be in CA a lot more. I doubt there any many people in Puerto Rico hahaha!
