    Default Pranafa Solingen

Need some info from the str8 razor experts here, this is the only one I've seen...........

About two years ago I bought this str8 razor off the bay, I had a few extra bucks in my Pay Pal account, which doesn't happen often, and figured "What the heck, for $25 shipped I'd take a chance, besides it does say Solingen". I cleaned it up, gave it a honing, it took an edge quick & easy with a very thin, even bevel and shaves like a dream. It has a very thin blade, is noisy and almost sings. Well worth the money spent. BTW, not looking to hear about any kind valuation here, just info.

On the front tang it has an emblem like I've never seen, a 451 and reads 'Pranafa' and 'Solingen'. On the rear tang it reads 'Best Sheffield steel forged and real hollow ground in Germany'. On the blade surrounded by gold wash is the word 'Komet' and below that it looks like maybe Russian? Greek? I don't know.......

I've been trying to thin the herd and this one pops up occasionally. I figure "Better test shave first to be sure it shaves good for the next owner', but when I test shave it does such a good job I say "Nope! Keeping this one'.

Any help with info would be greatly appreciated. Can't find out much doing a search except the company did make hair clippers. Thanks in advance!

Looking at the letters of the blade etching I am wondering if it was made for the Greek market. Just a way wild guess though. Be interesting to see what members come up with.

Pränafa (Präcisions Naben Fabrik) Werke GmbH Solingen Gräfrath. They are better known for their precision hubs. Here is a picture of their factory. Apparently, they also made razors for the west German army. The script looks Greek, someting like Anast. X Koytsop...

    It's Greek...

Better pictures? but from what I see...

    ANAST. X. KOUTSOPETALOS

I'm not really sure what it means, perhaps a name?

Komet is definitely German for comet though... It's very odd which is why I think the Greek is a name.

In Greek Anastasis is the word for resurrection So perhaps Anast. Is short for the name Anastasius (Anastasia is the female form).

X in Greek is the first letter of Christ... (Greek is Xristos) and the last name is just that I think...

I think you have the razor of a man littlerally name Risen Christ Koutsopetalos

    Thank You for the info.

This is the best pic I can come up with especially with the lighting situation. So I wrote it down on a sheet of paper and too a pic, see below.

So, I'm guessing the character the looks like a backward E is an S in Greek? And the A without the crossbar is L?

The owner of the razor engraved his name on the razor.
His name is Anastasios (very common first name in Greece), Χ=Ch (Initial of his father name, maybe Christos (ΧΡΗΣΤΟΣ), very common as well) and Kutsopetalos his surname.
