Took a razor from my collection ...
and honed it up to shave with . It is stamped "Old Democrat" on one side of the tang , and "Joliet B. S. Co. , Joliet , Ill. , M. I. Germany" on the other side . The blade is 5/8 deep hollow grind , with a blued tang and spine . The scales have a faux wood grain pattern and I think it may be celluloid . The razor is in excellent condition with NO rust . I stroped it and did my 8th str8 razor shave with it . This razor gave me a great shave , I must be doing something right . I also have two other razors I use . Both were made in Eskiltuna , Sweden , one was made by C. V. Heljestrand and the other was made by W. Soderen & Co. . Both are good shavers but I like the Old Democrat best .

Gratz Dave! That's exactly the way to learn as far as I'm concerned. Sounds like you're on the path to enlightenment...

Thanks John , it took a few shaves before I got the first razor sharp enough . The second one had to go back to the hone once . But this last razor shaved good , first try , I was pleasently surprised . I have a small razor collection I've accumulated over the last 20 years . And I've always wondered what it would be like , to shave with one . Now , I think I'm hooked !

AH rad, What a sweet illness, and the only cure is to buy more.

RAD ? I've had that for at least 20 years , I just couldn't find enough razors . I have more than the three I mentioned , they are the ones I shave with . I would usually find them at flea markets and antique bottle shows . Then back in Feb. , I discovered ebay .
