    Default C.V Heljestrand MK31 questions.

    Hey guys,

I have some questions about C.V Heljestrand MK31. I would like to get your opinions about the razor. Maximum price?, does it shave good?, is it worth buying? Feel free to add more info if you want
I'll post some pictures of the razor down below. Basically the conclusion is that Im not sure of the purchase :/

    Happy Holidays friends!

We don't do valuations, against the rules.

It's a very good blade but I'd advice against getting something so nice as your first(assuming this based on your questions) blade since newbs almost always damage their gear in one way or another.

I'd seen the listing and I had decided beforehand to not buy any new razors any time soon but even if I were out to buy one I'd probably pass on this one because the scales are not the typical Heljestrand design that I'm very fond of.

Ok sorry then. Stupid of me, not knowing!

To your assuming, it's not my first razor. But Im pretty new with straightrazors. About 1-2 year since I started up. Thank you Baxxer for your time.

Heljestrand is one of my favorite brands. A 5/8 MK 31 is a mighty nice razor in that condition. Even if you are new at it I'd get it, have it pro honed, and just use it to shave. IOW, don't hone it yourself until you've become proficient on less 'important' razors.

As for value, going to ebay completed items, doing a search for Heljestrand, or to other shaving forums that have archived buy-sell-trade forums that show what prices on stuff were is your best bet.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Well, that's another way to do it.

A thing to keep in mind for us Swedes is that Swedish razors on Ebay usually go for a lot more than Swedish razors that are sold in Sweden.

I have several Swedish razors and they shave great. The prices have gone up in the past year. Too rich for my blood. I prefer the shoulder less blades. Just like the profile.

Yes, they are very nice razors that shave very well. We do not price, because prices can vary so much, depending what the seller will sell for and buyer is willing to pay.

Is it worth it? It depends on the buyer.

Personally, if you can pick up a nice Mk31, under 200 dollars, the cost of a new “Average Quality” blade and you are in my opinion money ahead. As said, they will give you a lifetime of great shaves.

The blade grinds and the scale material will affect price. I too prefer the shoulderless grind and Ivory scales, do send it out for pro honing, they are too nice to learn to hone on.
