My RAD is back, so many razors.. so little money the wife doesn't know about..
So I had a dream about razors and woke up with the urge... you know the one...
There is an antique shop only three blocks from the house
So here is what I have narrowed it down to, please help me pick one ?
I tried to send a pic from my cell to my email but no such luck. Bet I still get charged.
Slightly dirty.
Duble Duck Dwarf, 6/8 I think, dark yellow celluloid scales, very little hone wear.
Probably asking around $50
Excellent
Frederick Reynolds 8/8 quarter hollow spike, scales not original but are the largest French Ivory silver bolstered scales I've ever seen, back of blade is worked but ONLY ON ONE SIDE?
Asking $28
Very good
Challenge 5/8 barbers notch wedge with moderate hone wear, sort of marbled green celluloid scales with only one pin at hinge none on other end , has some writing on blade but can't remember what
Asking $100
Very good
Adoration 5/8 or smaller, blade is dark, dark yellow scales with fancy ADORATION in metal work similar to certain Duble Ducs, a cute little razor
Asking $28
So far, despite the replacement scales I like the
Frederick Reynolds the best. It's a very large blade and the scales are classy looking but I wonder why it is only worked on one side?
Can someone fix this?
It would look damn sexy in some stag scales, oh and the spike is VERY SPIKY !
I've seen some nice Robert Williams stag scales, anyone know what he charges for scales and pinning a blade in them?
The shop owner tells me that the DD Dwarf is quite rare. Is this true?
I have been wanting a DD for some time (ever since I watched Lynn's shaving video )
An old barber I know seemed to get a little mad when I mentioned the Adoration and mumbled something about putting a bastard child in my will, guess he doesn't like them. Thoughts as to why?
I wouldn't mind adding the Challenge IF it were actually rare or valuable but $100 is starting to get into money that the wife DOES know about.
Help me? I'm going back tomorrow.

As I understand it D.D's are going for quite a bit more than 50 dollars on ebay, but of the ones you mentioned, I like frederick reynolds the best!!
By the way, I like your john stuart mill quote!!

If you only have to get ONE, get the FR. If you can get away with 2, pick up the DD as well, it will still cost you less than the Challenge. If you end up deciding to just get the DD, would you mind getting the FR as well and I'll PP you the cash for the razor and shipping to Canada?
If I were you and could only get one, then it would be the Reynolds for sure. However, AFIK the price on the Duck is also fairly good. Therefore, here's my ranking of decisions, if I were in your shoes:
1) Get both and tell the wife you paid less for both than you would have for one of the other options.
2) Get the FR for yourself.
3) Get the DD for yourself and broker the FR for a guy named Ilija
