chipped up Torrey
picked this up awhile ago and figured i would either clean it up or use the scales for something else .. well i got a wild hair and decided to do a quick rust removal and hone these little but not little chips out ..top razor ( actually it looked like it may have started to crack at the center chip )
well i dont know how long it took but as of now with this progression of stones , the chips are gone and its popping hairs with ease so i guess a shave test is coming soon .. but for now its a solid 13/16
220grit , 800grit, 1k , coti , coti , coti , finished on black escher/thuri (not in picture)

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Last week I recovered a 13/16 notched Torrey in about the same condition (less chips) at a consignment store that stocks my brand of mustache wax; the lady put the little tin on the counter and there, through the glass, stared perfect Torrey scales with a plenty of rust showing. The pins were snug though, edge was nearly straight and the spine had the slighest of wear. Buffer with emery and tripoli + 10 minutes of Bar Keeper Friend + 30 minutes of MicroMesh 3500 thru 12,000 + 1000/4000/8000/poly web x 0.5 CrOx + leather had it shaving like dream in a couple of hours. I left a few stains but preserved the nomenclature - good feeling to turn a rust bucket into something nice..
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and smooth Torrey shaving in 2015.Last edited by MisterMoo; 12-31-2014 at 01:14 PM.

Good save gooser ! A well honed Torrey will shave as well as any razor, period. Kudos

Had a Torrey with a big chip out of the toe. Honed it out and it is now one of my top 3 favorites.
Well done.If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

Thanked: 118Torreys are great American made razors. Definitely worth saving!
May your lather be moist and slick, the sweep of your razor sure, and your edge always keen!
