it certainly looks like it has a reverse curve on the spine, could just be an optical illusion though (see the red line along the spine).

my bruno blade is a similar width and 1/4" thick and even that has quite a substantial bevel, so i would expect a narrower spine to give a wider bevel.

Could the wider bevel be accomplishod on the 3/16 spine by simply adding a layer or two of tape while honing?

Well yes, adding tape will make the spine wider, and narrow the bevel, it's just a question of how much tape is needed.

With regards to the bruno blades, we are talking about snail forge, Bruno from this site is the maker.

If the spine is 3/16" on a 9/8 blade & should have been 1/4" then it needs more tape than I'd be bothered with applying.

It is the same person, Bruno who owns & operates the Snail Forge.

There's a review over on Reddit were the reviewer reported on honing a 9/8 W2 blade. The reviewer was able to get the blade shave ready without using tape.

- The scale material came today, an awesome blood/ruby linen micarta. I got them all set to cut out tomorrow. Unfortunately i shaved today with my dubl duck so i wont get to try out the razor and scales together for a couple of days. On the note of Bruno at snail forge, i think his blades are great and glorious but at $600+ they sure better be. I think Craig needs to refine the shape a tad and make scales to go with the razors like Charlie Lewis does.

$600 for a bruno Blade? I will never own one nice blades for sure tho.

Pretty sure you can buy a bare blade for a lot less than that from Bruno. As mentioned, the spine doesn't look right to me either. Might be worth mentioning to the maker of them. He obviously has the skill, if the geometry issues were corrected he would be on a winner.

ive been meaning to ask what is wrong with the spine ? from what i know all it does is make the cutting angle height and support

Hey guys, don't want to rain on the parade, but we are really tip toeing the line on bashing the gentleman. That's not the SRP way.

Design wise, there are a few thing that could be addressed...but lets be a bit more gentlemanly and address him directly instead of bashing him. He's learning & razors are a cutting tool that is really tough to make...try it. This is why the pro's razors start at several hundred bucks + a razor. You are paying for their experience, time and material.

For the geometry to be correct with a large blade (8/8+) the spine needs to be 1/4". As far as the design of the hump back, I've never had one in my hand & cannot comment on them.
