There are some reviews on here about the Titan razors, like a few mentioned already the problem with these razors is that they are inconsistent. To answer your original question some Titan can be great shavers while some will be a total dud....

Thank you all for the information given I can't believe how much came through in such a short time. OK I reset the bevel on a new Waterston's I have then for two and a half hour's as the sharpened edge was nearly a
1/4" wide and this is with four layers of tape. I finally got a polished edge which was sharp after stroping it still would not cut the hairs on my arm there are a couple of clumps left the rest of my arm is looking pretty mangie so sitting there all dejected I was idly stroping it on the leg of my cotton trousers for five to ten minutes realised what I was doing and tried again and it took the damned hair off. Was this dumb luck or is this known by most people I've never had a problem stroping on my horse leather before so I'm flumaxed any more help please.

Just decided to shave with the titon first passes went very well and I was pleasantly surprised finished first pass and as always do the back shave with oil it was at this point I noticed the blood on my cheek looked closer and all over both cheeks very small dots of blood all over it eventually looked like a rash there were so many small dots so I cleaned up and put some aftershave on pealed my self of the light shade didn't that just sting tomorrow I'm going to get a magnifying glass and see what the edge looks like I have also just looked at my finishing hone and there are loads of tiny hair like strands of metal I've never seen the like before I'll tell you what I find out tomorrow when I've checked the blade thank you everyone who has put in to help me

I've had a look under a magnifying glass and every change in the grain leaves a sharp point so either the soft steel is being honed out due to a slight flexing of the harder steel or the harder steel is brittle and breaks of leaving the softer steel behind either way it looks like a saw with some teeth missing. Luckily my cheeks have calmed down now, it has left lots of tiny little scratches I cleaned it all down with which hazel and then bunged on aftershave it stung like a b#£%h and I'll Waite a day or two until I shave I may be new to shaving but I would not in fact definitely not recommend a TITON razor to anyone they are not just bad they are bad for your health

It might be a combination of both the soft steel being honed out, and the harder steel being brittle. The cure for that is a lot of honing with very little pressure on high grit stones and checking with magnification often.

Sounds like we might have a new candidate for the razor's to avoid list.

And BTW, VG10 steel, while it might or might not suck for razors, makes excellent an excellent smoothing plane iron.

There are a good many carpenters on here. It might have something to do with that addiction to really sharp blades.

I must admit that it can become an obsession I must have spent six hours or more on that blade

    Default titon razors

OK it really bugged me, brought a microscope for solid objects. First I looked at my wade& butcher tiny cristals just two or three and a smooth blade with a few honing lines in with an almost straight shaving edge. My kamisori much the same less Cristal's all so slightly rounded, shaving edge was if anything straighter. Titon covered in sharp cristals the steel surface where I had been honing for hours was very rough even Looked like it had micro wood worm with all the tracking lines though by the naked eye it looked polished, the cutting edge looked like a piece of rough sawn wood with slivers of steel sticking out, pockets of dark rough metal and this is on the tip of the shaving edge. In my opinion as a joiner I could not get this razor to plane wood let alone shave with, it makes me cringe to think I tried shaving with it. Its just nasty and dangerous please don't get one

Waste of time trying to make an RSO work with so many good blades out there that are as inexpensive or even less , I can sharpen chisels too , but I wouldn't shave with them , so get a decent razor shave ready then go from there , , that way you spend more time learning to shave and strop then the honing will come to you. I have over thirty razors all are shave ready its just these two titons I couldn't get sharp that's all this thread was for, if anyone else had any information about them. I wish to thank you and the others who helped out. It surprised me how quickly people answered thanks to all once again.
