Deer Forge / Craig Barr razor update
I had to start this post as the other was closed due to someone violating forum rules.
I had a great discussion with Craig today, a true craftsman. In the thred that was closed I commented on how my razor never could hold an edge. Craig contacted me in 24 hours and by the end of the week I had a replacement.
Now on to the findings;
The replacement razor arrived in a priority mail box wrapped in newspaper. As you can see in the images below Craig's newerer razors are engraved, older have the Deer Forge logo.
Checked the razor out of the paper HTH-1 ok, let's shave with it. I am by no means an expert these are just my findings. Also note I shaved without a handle. I use Cella as my baseline test soap. Some tugging stopped at shaving half of my face.
My freshen up, 25 laps linen, 50 laps Dovo red on a vintage strop, 50 laps Dovo black, 100 laps Latigo SRD strop.
The razor was then HTH-3 the rest of the shave went well. Little irritation, no weepers.
Spine with is a little narrow, two layers of tape should be used to freshen up these razors.
The physical size of Craig's razors have changed, or may just be the variance in hand made items.
Craig was very open to discuss his process, and accepted criticisms well in my 30 minute phone conversation with him.
This is not a beginners razor. However, if you are willing to invest some time post sale it is a value and should not be overlooked.
In closing I would like to thank Craig for his time, and making things right. I would buy from Deer Forge again.Last edited by Bud; 01-31-2015 at 07:33 PM.
