Genco old dutch, antique store find
Picked this up today for 25 usd, the edge is in great shape, and I plan to rebuild this one. Will be sending it out shortly for a proper hone. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the fact that it was made in geneva (I live in waterloo, about 7 miles from the plant this was made in) means its pre-1935? Correct?Last edited by HarleyD; 02-03-2015 at 10:05 PM.

Thanked: 49That's a real beaut Harley. I don't know about the date, but I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in. Just out of curiosity what needs to be rebuilt? Are the scales broken or do you just want to do a razor project?

Well, I'm going to put it back together exactly as is, the scales are all but perfect, but the blade hits one of the bolsters when opening and catches it a bit, in order to correct it i believe I have to unpin it, so I figured I'd get it as clean as possible in the process. 2 of the 4 bolsters have green corrosion on them, so I guess its not a rebuild so much as a refresh, per say.

I do appreciate the advice, especially being that I am going to restore it myself. within reason, I don't concern my self too much with what a razor is worth, vs what I've got into it, within reason again. I just prefer to have everything in the best mechanical condition as it can be. I guess by the time anyone worries about what is into it, I'll be long gone. My collection, in its entirety, is going to my son, being that he is about 15 weeks old, I'll never remember what's what by then anyway. But be damn sure every razor will be in as good a shape as I could get it at the time.

Thanked: 40Nice,
I have an old duch that is considerably worn, yet still provides a wonderful shave.
Yours has many decades of life still to come.

I was going to reply to that thread and say I would gladly take the drive over to the Genco factory and see what's still standing, I just thought the thread was dead. I live less than 15 min from Geneva, NY , and I think I know where it is, or was anyway

Thanked: 4827you might try adjusting the pin before you repine it. Sometimes you can move the blade over quite a ways. Gently tap it on the side you want the blade to move to.
