New acquisitions (eBay find)
I just bought this lot of straight razor blades on eBay for $10.10, including shipping. The image is a little blurry, but to my untrained eye the top four blades look like they might be shavers if they get new handles.
I also bought some wood slabs from a bargain bin at a store the other day and was thinking of using them for razor handles. I have no idea what kind of wood they are made from, but they may be walnut, teak or even striped ebony. In any event, I think they look good and would probably make nice handles, either for straight razors or for full tang knives. The wood is untreated as far as I can tell, so I'm sure the colors will deepen when they are sanded smooth, oiled, waxed and polished. Or treated with cyanoacrylate, which I might try as well.
Now I have something to do in my spare time for a while.

Well, the blades haven't shown up here yet, so I'm starting to think that they may have been lost at sea or something. The USPS homepage quotes delivery time as being "4-10 weeks" for the shipping alternative I chose, so I guess there's still a couple of weeks left until I should be really concerned, but still. Seems like two months to send a package via surface mail is a bit much. Oh well. They were only $10.10 so I'm not going bankrupt if they don't show up.
Oh, and apparently the wood is "sheesham", according to a person on a knife forum where I asked about it.
