Thanked: 346Feathers and Shavettes aren't in the same league. It's like comparing a Fatboy to a bic disposable. The Feather is an impressive piece of kit, with some impressive blades. The extra blade length is very helpful (the long shavette blades are for hair trimming and aren't really suitable for shaving).

I've used the Fromm with Fromm blades and the Feather with the Feather Professional blades. The Fromm shaver is lighter than the Feather, and the Fromm's blades are not as sharp. (Translate: I cut myself more with a Feather!) I get a closer shave with the Feather, but the Fromm shave is still quite respectable. The Fromm is more forgiving of improper techniques of pressure and angle. The Feather looks cooler, I think, and feels better in my hand. The Feather purchase left my wallet a lot lighter than the Fromm purchase.

On my neck the hair grows from left to right not up to down. In order to get BBS on my neck I need to go diagnally against the grain after reducing the hair in the first and second pass. On the first pass I go directly from top to bottom, and on the second pass I go from bottom to top with a cross hand grip. For the final pass I use the left hand to shave the left side of my face and go diagnally from top to bottom and from the middle of my neck to the outside. The angle is awkward on the right side of my neck so I use my left hand to do a cross stroke from underneath. I go from bottom to top and go from the outside of my neck to the inside. This is what works well for me and your results may vary. You should also experiment with skin stretching to see if you can do a better job of standing the hairs up.
