Thanked: 2obsession.
About 3 months ago i transitioned from my dovo shavette to my first straight razor (dd goldedge) and got bit bad by the razor bug. In about a 8 week period i ended up with 10 razors,6 vintage barber stones and a terrifying need for more. All my razors are vintage except the craig barr and their is something about them that just fascinates me, with so many makes and models that each one is slightly different and unique . Anyone else in the same boat?
ps -thank you Chris Ellison for doing the honing on most of them

More than you need, but not even close to want you want.
Sounds like about everyone here.

Thanked: 45Yup on that boat for sure....my logic is the following....
If I acquire razors at a certain rate, and all that I bring in are shave-ready....I may never have to hone one....hehehehehe

Thanked: 4828There are a lot of us here that are into this for a lot more than just shaving. I have a substantial collection. I have way more razors than I can shave with. It is the organizing that has made me feel more like a hoarder than a collector. I think of all the pictures of peoples stuff that I have seen Geezer is the only one that seems to be exceptionally well organized and displayed. I am trying to organize and sell off some of my stuff in an attempt to make it more enjoyable for the long haul. Wait Sharpton has some crazy cool organizational stuff too. Until I get my stuff better organized I think I need to curb buying. Working hard trying to convince myself this is the right thing to do.

I've been there and done that, but now I've 'moved on' to something sensible. I'm collecting tin lined French copper cookware ...... :
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Razors are cool and those of us of the OCD persuasion have WAY too many. Nothing wrong with that if you have QUALITY in your collection, IMO. Things with wear go to newbs to practice and shave with, junk is no longer considered, and quality things which there are silly duplicates of get sold or traded to others who do not have them in order to complete their perspective collection. Limiting one'self to nice examples of things of interest is the way to go, IMO. No sense gathering up every known razor. The end will never come. Go with things you like and expand from there. Put together a plan for organizing and restoring, researching and recording history. Be certain you know what is collectible if you want to collect. 1000 razors of poor quality are not worth 10 of excellent quality from a collector's standpoint. JMO.

Not to admit OCD, but to add a vote for Rezdog's and Sharptonn's organization notes...
I have 12 after 18 months and when I was trying to decide which to strop and use, I couldn't remember which I had shaved with last, let alone when they had last been honed.
So first I arranged them in my storage boxes in specific slots, thereby facilitating a legitimate rotation, AND started a spreadsheet on them with where and when I got them, when they had been honed, who did the honing (I just did my first), with or without tape and with what stones if I know. Just looking the spreadsheet makes me feel good that I've started before I lose records from my email or receipts, and it reminds me what a nice assortment I have of manufacturers, country of origin and grinds/sizes. Now I think I'm going to zero in on balancing the mix some in the future, based not on just what I see available, but what I read about on the forum, and hear excellent reports on.Just call me Harold
