    If you're looking for tamahagane, the most certain indicator is the kanji marking. Not all blades will have hamon lines, or any other distinguishing characteristics.

    Thanks for all of the info guys! I saw some pictures of alloy banding that look very similar. It may not be as special as I originally thought, but it still looks pretty cool. I guess my hunt for a tamahagane blade continues.
