Thanked: 24If you're looking for tamahagane, the most certain indicator is the kanji marking. Not all blades will have hamon lines, or any other distinguishing characteristics.

Thanks for all of the info guys! I saw some pictures of alloy banding that look very similar. It may not be as special as I originally thought, but it still looks pretty cool. I guess my hunt for a tamahagane blade continues.
