Let dandy
Hi I'm thinking about getting the Le Dandy thiers issard for my first razor, I have noticed you can get it 4/8 and 5/8, perhaps there is not much differents in size but made me wonder are wider blades harder to strip or hone than narrower ones or doesn't it make a differences? Any help will be great thanks.

I would purchase the 5/8's. I've never noticed a difference between honing a 4/8's or 5/8's blade.
The 5/8's blade will have a better resale value if you chose to sell it later.

I find a 5/8 easier to use (when I say easier to use, I mean "requires less attention to use properly") than a 4/8. I find a 4/8 is more likely to roll or dig when honing or stropping, which is no problem if I pay more attention and/or get used to the razor size. I also find I am more likely to mess up my shaving angle with a 4/8 which, again, is no problem if I pay more attention and/or get used to the razor.

I agree. 4/8 or smaller can be a little tricky when you're learning how to strop. I think that 5/8 is an ideal size for a first razor. Get some experience with it and figure out if you want to go bigger or smaller from there. I wouldn't worry to much about resale value though. It's all about finding whats works for you.

Thanked: 14I have a current production Special Coiffeur that is labelled 5/8 but is about as wide as my 6/8 razors. It handles well and is one of my favorite blades.
