Interesting Find In Razor Box
So I got another Landers Frary & Clark razor to add to my Connecticut collection. This one has the removable blade. Is this considered a straight or more of a shavette?
Then I noticed a paper stuffed in the razor box. Pulled it out and was like well this is cool. There was a Turner Hall on Arch St. in New Britain, CT where the Landers Frary & Clarks were made. So the mystery is, did LF&C recycle these dance announcements as packing material or did some chap stuff this in his razor box after the dance? We may never know.....

About the AOH
The Ancient Order of Hibernians is a Catholic, Irish American Fraternal Organization founded in New York City, May 4th ,1836. The Order can trace its roots back to a parent organization, of the same name, which has existed in Ireland for over 300 years. However, while the organizations share a common thread, the North American A.O.H. is a separate and much larger organization.
Did a little bit of a web search and found this info.

Thanked: 884I think the original owner probably bought himself a new fangled LF&C razor. Then he used it to spruce up before he went to the dance. At the dance he met the girl of his dreams. He stuffed that announcement into the magic razor box right before he shipped out to France to help win the war to end all wars.
Then while he was over in France, up to his bobo in mud, he got a "Dear John" letter and parked the razor somewhere never to be seen or used again....Last edited by Wullie; 03-08-2015 at 04:25 AM.

I like everything about it. I find the fact that someone could have used it before going to the ball in 1917 very interesting.

Dang, After practicing that two step for weeks I was committed to go and forgot. I wonder if they missed me.

To answer your first question . . . This was a straight razor with a replaceable blade, not a disposable blade. It was meant to be honed and stropped just as you would any razor. These were originally sold as a boxed set containing two blades. One blade could always remain shave ready and could be installed as needed. The extra blade was stored in a nickel plated sleeve in the box. This set also included a toothed sleeve that could be slid over the blade for the purpose of making it a safety razor.

Thanked: 25I don't think so? The pictures showed that it had some discoloration/pitting near the spine at the toe.
