Thanked: 0Puma high class razor
Hey guys, i just had this beauty handed down to me. My grandpa was a barber and this was part of a set of his tool box. Its still very sharp but i am in the process of bringing it back to full shave ready quality.
Can anyone shed some light on the history of this razor and give any information about it?

Thanked: 4826Welcome. If your experience is equal to your join date, you may want to wait before you mess around with an heirloom. The thing about them is that you only get them one way and when they are gone, they are gone. It is a very good brand and looks to be doing pretty good. Maybe just give it an oiling and practice with something a little less valuable.

Thanked: 0Hello and thankyou for the advice. I have been straight razor shaving for years with much less valuable razors. I would much rather put this to use than have it sit around in a collection. I dont plan on ever selling it no matter what the value of it is and it would honour my grandfathers memory if i could use it.
Thankyou again!

Have you honed your own razors?
If not, send it out to be professionally done. The minor cost will be well worth it.

Thanked: 0I have honed my razors before, but i think i might take this one to get professionally honed first up seeing as it is so old and needs a bit of maintenance. I will have a search around for places in australia that offer this service.
Thankyou!

Thats a good choice. Nice razor and heirloom. Puma high class are typically well known by straight users and well thought of. Good luck in using it.

It's funny how razor brands seem to go in and out of fashion. A few years ago most would kill for that razor. Puma's are at the top of the heap. There are none better. These days they mostly go under the radar. That's too bad.

I remember reading a post here about exactly that, how at one time a Puma razor was the hottest thing, and big Wade & Butchers were all over eBay for cheap, when I started, the Ducks were like that, expensive and battled over, it is interesting to see the various razor brands trend up and down....

I love my Puma razors. They can still fetch a pretty penny, but indeed they are being overshadowed by other makes that are currently in fashion.
Jamsta87, that Puma you have is a very good razor, I know because I had the same one at some point. It has a very hollow grind and the blade is quite thin and flexy. It should take a very nice edge. There are many in Australia who can surely hone it for you. I know of one ebay seller in Oz who bids on every puma razor out there.
