Thanked: 0Razor Collection Pics and Feedback
Hey everyone--
100% new here, but have followed the forums for about a year and a half silently as I started collecting straights, as well as other shaving gear such as strops and brushes. I am actually shaving with a DE safety razor while a cup, brush, and soap, but am collecting straights solely because I find them interesting and simply want to preserve the pieces I have, not necessarily restore to "brand new" condition and shave with them.
More or less, I am just trying to collect a variety of interesting older pieces. I cleaned several of these up with #0000 steel wool with oil and some Maas Polish. Here are some pics of my current collect!ion -- I would like to get some feedback on the pieces from the experts here.
The pieces here include (in order):
1. FW Engels Solingen - 2 pics
2. Hessen Bruch - 2 pics
3. Set with Red Clouds Collective tool roll (I saw one of these on the forum at some point and really liked it to organize a small group of razors).
4. Wade & Butcher 8/8+. The photo showing the measurement is a bit misleading due to the tape measure not being 100% flush with the surface of the razor. It is at least a full 8/8 if not over. It does, however, have a crack by one of the pins (pictured). - 4 pics
5. Wade & Butcher Celebrated Hollow Ground. This one has a corner cracked off on the reverse sign pin holding the blade. I did not snap a pic of this before putting the razors away. - 2 pics
6. Wade & Butcher Sheffield - 2 pics.
7. Wade & Butcher w/wooden handle. Pretty sure this is not the original handle, but a cool razor nonetheless. - 2 pics
Any feedback is much appreciated.

Welcome to SRP. Nice collection of straights. FW Engels is a very well respected brand amongst the old barbers I knew 40 years ago. W&B is one of the best of the Sheffields. I'd go for as nice a condition as could be found in future acquisitions. Just from my own past experience.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

JJKY: Dennis at Dennis's Barbershop is having his annual SRP members get together on May 24 & 25th in Richmond KY. A nice way to share some wet shaving Camaraderie.

Good pile. Not as nice as most, but the Hessenbruch seems toast. No worries, though. More out there!
Hessenbruch is a good razor."Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Thanked: 4827Welcome. I think you are well on your way. You have some nice blades, and a nice roll up too.

Thanked: 1184Nice collection you have going there. I would suggest this product for protection during storage.
Personally I would do something about the scratches left by the steel wool or skip using it all together. You could probably use some 1500 and 2k grit paper to tone them down a bit. Just my eye :<0)Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
