Default New Vintage Green Lizard 131C

I picked this one up from Vintage Blades specifically with the intention of using it to practice honing. First thing to note is that the picture is post-hone and shave. The rough stripe by the edge of the blade is from a previous owner. It came very dull (wouldn't cut anything with ease...just a tad better than a butter knife) and with a frown that was somewhat more apparent, but as I honed it some of that dissipated just a bit. The edge came together pretty quickly and it shaved well. I think i could give it a little more time on the 8k and 12k to really finish it off, but the shave was smooth and comfortable. I did cut myself, but it was totally my fault...I wasn't paying as much attention to the point as I should have been!

At any rate here she is. I will take her to the hones again sooner rather than later...

I bought a series of vintage razors to learn to hone with too. Worked great for me. It looks like a good candidate. Glad you had a decent shave.

That is the plan for the time being....get some cheap vintage blades that are in reasonable condition (can be honed using basic fundamentals and not too many advanced techniques) and then I will figure out what to do with them....

My first thought is PIF to my friends and get them straight shaving, then re-hone the razors as they damage the edges during the learning process...so perhaps I can get 3-4 hones per razor...before I endeavor on end-to-end honing for razors that aren't mine (or I get on the Bay). My regular collection only requires basic maintenance at this point and that is pretty straight forward.

I would much prefer to get a basic skill set dialed in before I start touching razors that have value...either to me or to someone else.

It takes a lot of razors to be very good. I think going to meets will advanced your skill set quite quickly.
