Thread: 6/8 wedge Pradier

Looking for information on Pradier, Paris, France. I'm guessing the blade is from c. 1830. I found a few threads on the forums with some nice early razors from this maker but nothing with any real info on the maker.
The collars appear to be small domed copper. The tang has upper and lower jimps and is very thin at the stub tail.

It's very beautiful, and the pieces seem to fit. But I have no knowledge of French razors, so I can be of no help. Still a beauty. Nice score!

Michel-Désiré Pradier was a cutler in Paris France, located at Rue (street) Bourg l'Abbé. With 2 different location on the same street 22 seems to be the earliest (1819) and later at 13 (1834).

In 1819 Pradier got a patent for a paste to sharpen razor, mineral based. He also received many other patents for weekly sets ( semainier) and some none razor related patents as well.


Not finding any reference for Pradier after 1830's. Your razor might be earlier then 1830's give or take a few, hoping that you will restore and use the razor.

I also have two of these in a wooden box. But I cannot add any details about Pradier.

I never expected to see those. Very nice. Now I know what the scales may have looked like. Scale material appears to be bone. Is the wedge made of lead? Are the collars domed copper?

Congratulations, Pradier's razors are quite priced in our french community.

Early cutler of the XIXth century, he did a lot to expend the industry of cutlery (to huge manufactories that were unknown in France before). His razors are of very good quality, and some were true pieces of art.

Usually bone or ivory too.

Yes, collars are copper.
I have this razors for about 4 years, but still no time for restoring, as there are 4 dubl ducks 6/8 waiting.
