I have a Dovo Renaissance 6/8. Similar in many attributes. Very nice razor. Good balance and thus far has held the edge admirably.
You can't go wrong with SRP. Your current razor, is it a Thiers Issard? I really like TIs. I find Dovos more forgiving."The best way to have a good idea is to have a lot of ideas." -Linus Pauling

Borg,
The Art of Shaving 5/8 Dovo is a basic razor and good for starters. For your next razor, I don't think you'll go wrong with the Ralf Aust 5/8 or the 6/8. I'm not familiar with the Dovo Encina and cannot comment on it.

Thanked: 45I have a Dovo Bismarck, which is a similar blade to the 6/8 Encina in that it is also shoulderless and the same overall size (it may also come from a common razor blank as well, but I am not 100% sure about this). It is a great shaver. It took me a while to like and get used to as a green-horn, but it is a go-to for me now and is in my regular rotation. I think you will enjoy it.

I have a Dovo Palisander which was a very limited run. Same blade as a Bismarck. I think the Encina too; difference being the scales. It's a nice enough razor but unremarkable. I really like shoulderless blades. Probably the only reason I keep it. I believe a Boker or Ralf Aust is a better all around razor.
