    Default custom scales?

Anyone know where to buy custom scales? I'm just getting into the art of shaving and I figure I want my razor to be unique. I love the scales made from beyond the wood. Does anyone know any credible sites to buy nice scales? Thanks guys!

Lots of vendors here make custom scales. I prefer vintage ones which are sometimes more unique than anything else. One thing to note. Scales MUST be the correct size for your blade in length, width, curvature, and pin spacing. Also, the wedge must also be able to accommodate your blade in several aspects. Hit the workshop and do searches on making scales in the search box at top right. Even if you know what you think you want, you need to learn what is involved in fitting scales to a blade.
This will come in handy as commissioning a set, or even making them yourself!

Even though I have several patterns of different shaped scales they are only a starting point in making a set of scales. Each set of scales will be sized to fit the particular blade I am working on at that time. Once I decide which shape I want I usually cut the scales a little larger than the pattern to allow some wiggle room for sizing; blade length, width, curvature, pin spacing, etc.

Back when I first started replacing scales I did order a couple of sets and got lucky they fit (with a little trimming) the blades I ordered them for. Now I find it more gratifying to make them myself. Now, we won't talk about the number I trashed do to mistakes, not thinking or planning ahead, dumb moves, etc.......its all a part of the learning process. Be prepared to fail and you won't be so disappointed.
