Thanked: 0merkur-solingen straight razor?
Hi there all,
I'm new to the forum, I live in Kwa-Zulu Natal here in South Africa and have been interested in straight razors for about a year now. I've come across a Merkur Solingen straight razor and have been battling to find any information on it. I know merkur is now owned by Dovo, but there doesnt seem to be any information about merkur's historing in making straight razors. The one I have has cream coloured celluloid scales with the God head emblem inlayed in one of the scales in what looks like silver, the tang has the same emblem with the words 'Merkur solingen Germany' stamped on it. My guess is that this razor is somewhat rare and that Merkur solingen-stamped razors in general are rare - but does anyone know anything about this brand, it's history and perhaps what a razor like this might be worth as a collectable?
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

The only thing I can tell you is that there is a guy on Eboy who has been selling them for over a year now. He must have bought the remaining stock when they stopped making them. All of his are 2/8s razors. Kind of a speciality item for trim work really. His auctions have been going for around $50.00 more or less. I would say they are a typical german razor meaning quality.
