Thanked: 142 granite Paris
Hi there I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with this blade. Or manufacturer. I searched the site it's referenced once before re a honing issue. Has anyone got one? Is it a decent blade? Worth having and restoring for $45. It's a little tarnished doesn't look in the pictures to have any sig chips in the bevel and is described as sharp but requiring some tlc to get it shave ready?
any thoughts would be great
thanks B

Thanked: 3164It should be 'Garantie' rather than granite - probably why your google-fu was not working...
I have had many of them - if they have not been too abused they are great razors. They are usually cheap - under the asking price, IMHO - usually because the makers mark is absent and they are usually on the small side as regards width. The legend on the tang just tells you that it was either made in France or made for import into France, and it bears some sort of warranty, although the guarantee could be specious, marketing hype.
Garantie is not the name of the razor, nor is it the make. All the ones I had bore '42' on the tang, so maybe there were a number of models.
Mine were smaller in width than a 'normal' blade (5/8ths of an inch), but only by around 1/16th, giving a width of 9/16ths of an inch. No doubt there are larger examples, in which the price will be elevated a bit, according to condition.
As we cannot see what the razor in question looks like condition-wise, it is next to impossible to say anything about it's value, unfortunately.
Regards,
Neil

Thanked: 1Thanks for the info. The photo shows the mark and your quite correct with the spelling. I copied and pasted it from the ad. I have had no luck at grabbing a photo off it to post I'll have to try from my computer. I was really curious about the run away factor or the that's a great razor usury selling for 150+ kind of factor so to hear you say you've owned some and survived and that they are "cheep" says to me that with some cleaning and honing it might be a nice razor but at 45 might be over priced

Thanked: 1Interesting. Aside from slightly more tarnish looks to be similar condition. I'll have to repost in his thread and find out how it shaves.
