common razor sizes?
Hello all
Ok so I was wondering what size razor should I get next to try .
I currently have a 5/8 Jr torrey and I am still very new and was just wondering what the next common size was ....
or should I try a diffrent style 5/8 blade and if so what are the more common types of blades that would affect a shave?
I find that a 5/8 is a good enough size though I have yet to try another size so can't say if I like it more than another lol

You could just jump up a size to a 6/8 I know it doesn't sound like much , but when you get it in your hands it's quite a bit different ,, more heft. Now if your wanting to try something a little different try a smiling blade. It doesn't have to be a big smile , I have grown to love my smiles, it's all I order now as for the style I like but their probably not for every one,, if the 5/8 is doing you well I wouldn't jump up too quick. Thanked: 4828I find that the different grinds effect my shave more than the blade widths. However if you are searching for your perfect shave sometimes your mood is also a factor. I have worked hard at trying as many as I can. I find I like the slightly wider blades, and 1/2 to 1/4 hollow, but I also love my Henckels 17's and 14's which are full and extra hollow. So try a wide blade and some different grinds. If you buy them second hand you can more often sell them later for the same or similarly priced. There have been wicked deals in the classifieds here as long as I have been here.

Yah I'm still as of yet really new to all of this but I know that my next blade will be something a little different and just did not know what that would be the obvious answer being a 6/8 blade or a smile but was not sure if there are any reasons I should try one over the other first or something like that

already forgot about the grind being an option to change!!
I'll have to look closer at my blade and see what it is currently lol

Yes, the grind can give you a greater variety than size.
Just try a full hollow followed by a near wedge and tell me that even though you are new you couldn't tell the difference.

Try a 6/8 full hollow. You won't regret it
For a totally different experience, may I suggest a 7/8 near wedge! That's something else...As the time passes, so we learn.

Thanked: 96I started about 6 months ago with straight shaving and purchased a 4/8 used and a new 5/8 Aust. Just moved up to a Boker and Aust 6/8 and like them. If it feels good stay with them. You may want at some point in the future to try a larger blade. Part of the fun of shaving.
