Thanked: 0Double delema
Just recently while cleaning out my grandparents old house three straight razors were found. The first and likely the least useful razor is an old G.E. Sayle razor. The second and still arm hair shaving sharp is an old Waterville Cutlery Co razor. This razor has etchings on the blade that say Waterville High-Grade. This razor also has some gimping on the blade. The last and the sharpest/although not face shaving sharp is an old. Unger Bros. razor. This razor was sold in new york, has a German made blade with gimping on it, and the handle is metal. I suspect that it might be silver. My first problem is to decide which one to choose to keep for myself. My second problem is to find a budget straight razor to practice with so that if I mess up I will not ruin a good old blade. I am grateful for any input that you can provide.

Thanked: 3795As family heirlooms, I would keep all three. I do agree that it is a good idea to get another razor to use for practice. You need to learn all of the creative ways you can break a razor.

Thanked: 228I would keep them all as they are family heirlooms. If you want to try straight razor shaving, you are in the right place. Read all you can on this forums library etc and watch lots of videos. When ready to try, get a good razor off of the classifieds on this forum. You will get one that is ready to shave!
Ask lots of questions, they will be answered by avid shavers who love what they do. Be aware of differences of opinions as there will be many but the basics are basics and will vary little. I hope that made sense!
