Can't help thinking this thread is close to getting out of hand. Orville posted his proud new purchase and this thread now just seems to be casting a dark cloud over his experience. Personally, I think it should be closed.

Just tread carefully fellas.
There is a fine line between comments and bashing a vendor. As you all know bashing a vendor, any vendor is not allowed here.
So just watch your comments things are still in the safe zone.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 3227This thread reminds me of the Revisor one. I feel bad for the OPs in both cases. Getting a little irritated at some defenders of the faith/products mentioned in those posts. Never saw any vendor bashing in either thread but the Fan Boys sure had at her.

Thanked: 45To me one of the most profound benefits of online forums is the thought that one can browse through the various threads and make a determination on their own as to what they want and who they want it from. I have been a member of numerous online forums around a number of different interests. By far the most "hostile" were the Audi forums of which I was a part. I can't even begin to tell you the armchair expertise that was displayed on those pages. Through all of the BS, however, were some very good nuggets of information. Unfortunately to wade through the rest of it to extract those tiny bits often cluttered the whole experience.
I get that there is no vendor bashing here, however one should feel free to post pictures and express opinions, just has been done here, without fear of dissent. A personal opinion about the finish of the OP's razor, or for that matter the fact that he expected something else based on the pictures, is a completely valid opinion and not bashing a vendor in the least. There have been some posts here that seemed to reach out to the OP and question his opinion.
Why? Who cares if that is his opinion? Because it is different than someone else's does NOT make it wrong, and it certainly does NOT mean he is bashing a vendor. I think if posters are not comfortable expressing their valid opinions about a blade for fear of retribution from some members of the community (who may or may not have some skin in the game), then the value of this forum is lost. If we can't post reviews and express opinions, this just becomes a big photo gallery with some nice pictures and a whole lot of "ooohhh, ahhhh, blah blah blah."

Well-said, Oz. In fact, I may go so far as to suggest tapered tangs, smiling (somewhat?) edges, centered pin placement, and scales thin enough to flex, not to mention fit and finish fit into this traditional category.
As to new razors. Imagine an Aust or Revisor without these characteristics.
I cannot either."Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

The tail tapers on my Hydra. If the tang tapers, I do not see it. there is a beveled portion, but that does not change anything when the blade is rotated along it's pin. The scales remain still throughout. At least, when observed from above the spine. No flex.

Right. That is why it works with a spacer. No movement of the scales. It works!
Traditional designs have the tang tapering toward the tail in some degree. The taper of the tang mostly determines the degree of the wedge. Traditionally speaking!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
