Default New Bocote Scales for my Hart Steel

Hi everyone, I wanted to share this photo of the new Bocote scales that I got for my Hart Steel "Not a Replica". I prefer natural materials over the stock resin scales that this razor came with and I've been in analysis paralysis for over a year trying to make up my mind. The stock photos of the options for these razors are all beautiful, but with wood there is always so much variation so you never know exactly what you'll end up with. I did a lot of internet searching for different pics of the different woods, and there weren't a ton of them out there. So I thought it would be helpful to others who may be considering these scales to see mine and be able to compare it with any others available. I ordered the scales from the Hart Steel website instead of the main site that sells them because they were $10 cheaper directly from the Hart site. The scales are a single continuous piece of wood, so combined with the hex screw hinge it took about a minute to swap them out. Pretty simple and painless.

Those scales are awesome. I would put them on one of my razors in a heartbeat. You made the right choice.

Funny you mentioned this. By the way, that Bocote is insanely beautiful!!! But I just got my Hart 6/8 Polished square point. I originally wanted Cocobolo scales. But I requested the most exotic grain they had. Classic Shaving called me the next day and said they have a low inventory on Cocobolo and didn't think the ones they had would suit my fancy. So they went over a few other options, but then I saw the Royal Camo. Thought it looked bad ass, so I went for that. After being in a quick decision mode, I must say I made the wrong choice. I am very meticulous and like durable materials with feel and appearance. The Royal Camo felt like paper that's been pressed together and was as light as a feather. So quickly I went and stared at my second choice which as Bocote. Beautiful I must say. But the red tone of the Bubinga got me. So I ordered Bubinga this time. Again I requested for the most exotic in house. They then replied that a few there including the owner found the one they assume would fit what I wanted. I shall receive it in the mail tomorrow morning. I can't say enough good things about the customer service at Classic Shaving!

Just beautiful- they compliment the blued steel of the 'not a replica' razor beautifully.

Thanks everyone. I was a little taken aback when I opened them because they look absolutely nothing like the photo example on the site, but I do think they end up going quite well with the blade. Together they have kind of an old rugged look that appeals to me. The funny thing is that looking back I think I meant to actually order the Cocobolo scales too, as it was down between these two. I have a razor stand made of cocobolo for my Robert Williams Purist Kamisori and it looks absolutely nothing like the wood on those scales. So I just decided to roll the dice. I like them though. I have a Ralf Aust razor that has snakewood scales and there is a huge contrast between the two. The Aust scales seem to have a thick layer or layers of varnish on them and are very glossy where as the Hart Steel wood is very toned down has a very satin finish. I'd love to see pics of others Hart scales for those who have them as well.

I saw those Royal Camo scales too and thought they were very interesting. Did you exchange them for the Bubinga or keep them both? Well please definitely post a pic of those Bubinga scales when you get them on; I'd love to see them!

Well, I sent them an email to see if I could exchange them but I couldn't wait for an answer since I wanted the Bubinga scales next day. So I just ordered them. I live 2 hours away from Classic Shaving, so no need to pay for overnight shipping. I will definitely post pics today since they will arrive this morning.
