Thanked: 0Gold Bug??
Hi could anyone tell me if they have used a Gold Bug I have just purchased one on e-bay and have had a go at honing it and spent the better part of 2 hours trying to get some kind of edge on it
Now I am the first to admit that I am no hone master by a long shot but this thing even after 2hours of honing would not cut warm butter
are the blades that hard or have I just purchased a very good jam spreader
thanks in advance to any reply

Thanked: 346Honing it with what? ebay razors can be a chore their first honing, even with a norton. You've got to make the bevel from scratch, and frequently the steel at the edge is a bit rotten and won't hold an edge until you hone through to good steel.

I've worked on a Gold Bug, and it's a nice razor. The steel is good and will take an edge for you; keep working on it, or consider sending it out for a good tuneup.
Good luck,
Josh

I agree. I have one and its an excellent razor. I got mine on Eboy but it was in pretty good shape. It still took a while to get it shave ready.
