Thanked: 5Amazing Koken
Just obtained a beautiful NOS Koken 15/16 straight razor made in Spain and looks for all the world like a Filharmonica 14 without any embellishments but actually with superior scales...came shave ready so stropped it up and lathered up with Tabac and WOW!!!...It shaves as good or better than my Filharmonica's and Wonderedges.
I can't be certain but I seriously wonder if it was actually made by the Filharmonica folks given it's physical and shaving similarities to the Filharmonica 14.
Does anyone else have any experience with this brand of razor. I know it is a famous barber supply company based out of St. Louis in my home state of Missouri and they are famous for their barber's chairs but no experience with one of their razors prior to this.
Based on my n of 1 I have to say two thumbs way up!!! Will post pics when I get time.

Yes, Koken manufactured Barber's chairs, assorted barbershop paraphernalia. They also bought out and resold everything under the sun. Love to see a pic! A Filarmonica rebranded?

Thanked: 5It sure appears to be. The grind, blade aesthetics, weight, jimping etc all scream Filharmonica 14. Not to mention it's made in Spain. I own three Filharmonica's and can legitimately say the shave is identical...at 1/3 the price. Ha.
It's definitely a keeper!

I would say it's definitely a Filarmonica blank they probably made it as well just rebranded under the name Koken.

Thanked: 5This one was procured from Griffith Shaving in the U.S. He had 4-5 and one greedy person cleaned him out of all of them at once so you may see them popping up on flee bay sometime in the near future. These are not valuable collectors pieces so unless he was trying to make a 5 day set I don't know why else he would have purchased them all.
Anyway second shave also fantastic with Mikes Lavender shaving soap and whipped dog 30mm boar along with Floid suave.
