    Any ideas on good Japanese made straights?

    I have found & read that the better ones are the ones with the Hitachi steel in them but there are others as well. Here's a link to some steel made in Japan. I will do some more searching. I'm looking for one in particular about the Hitachi steel.

    I don't think I've ever had a dud Japanese straight. There's western style straights, western style kamisori's and kamisoris. All shave well but are different to use. Yasuki steel is another stamp to look out for. Tamahagane is the top of the tree regarding steel but it's reasonably rare and quite expensive.

    That was what I was searching of earlier, the Yasuki steel which is made by Hitachi & is of high quality but the highest quality Tamahagane is the Top of the line like you said because it is used for the ones who make swords & is rarer. I know there are some straights made of Tamahagane. Thank you very much johnmrson.
