    Default ABT gun metal?

Does anybody out there know any back story to this razor/company? My google-fu searches are coming up blank. Searches here have only showed me other ABT's, but no information... The others i seen all have a Solingen stamp, and since this one has stamps in pretty good condition on both sides of the tang, but no German stamp, can I assume it's made in America? Curious as to around what year(s) abt was in business, (and an old address would be bonus points).

Gun Metal was a popular moniker used by many makers, retailers. Wester Bros comes to mind. Most assuredly is from a Barber's supply in Philly. Lots of razors were made for BS's and hardware, drug stores, with their names upon them. It is likely from Germany. Could be U.S. made. Never going to find out, so hone it and shave!

Not shaving until I find my grail, a Sherman Cutlery Co.

But I will still clean it up... Throigh my searches I have seen a bunch of other "gun metal" blades for other supply co.'s, all were marked made in Germany though. (Supposedly it was a big wester bros. trademark). And I also seen a few other ABT's, all were marked made in Germany...

The lack of a made in Germany tag is what's been throwing me off. I was trying to be hopeful, but you're right, my better judgement tells me it "probably" was made in Germany, very well likely by wester bros.

During wartime, Wester had some Gun Metals with no 'Germany' stamp. I have one. Different. I think Geneva or someone made them in the U.S. possibly?

So are you saying that there's a chance this one may have been made by Geneva? Because taylors1000 list includes a list of Geneva trademark names and "gun metal" is not among them...

A razor made and stamped for another to resell could have most anything on the tang, or blade's face, regardless of who manufactured it. Is specified by the retailer. I was just using Geneva as an example. Like many other makers, they made razors for many hardware, barber's supply companies. It would seem 'Gun Metal' was quite popular as we see it upon many 'brands'.

Totally agree, without the stamp Germany or any other manufacturers its almost impossible to find out who made it, furthermore even some stamped American co used German made razor and put their stamp on it.

Some Gun Metal trademark razors -Geo. F. Creutzburg & Son from Philadelphia, Eisemann's, Colapa, Buckeye, and even Torrey's.
