I don't think I want to use gun oil on a razor that is going on my face

Balistol is a very good choice always apply with a aplicator not your finger because you can transfer moisture that way, I use 3M pure silicone spray that contains no petrolium products so good for giving your scales a spray as well.

Thanked: 1I would think something recommended for leather like neatsfoot oil or mink oil would be a good choice. The oil will eventually find its way onto your strop and won't deteriorate it over time.

You don't leave the oil on your razor while shaving

There's a bunch of oils you could use.
Ideally, they should be specifically for protecting steel & harmless to you & your gear.
I use Inox MX3.

Thanked: 45I use mineral oil now which works great. Before I got that, I was using Hoppes Elite as well and it was fine to gold over to the mineral oil. Mineral oil is a bit thicker and binds to the blade better than the gun oil did. Either way, I make sure to remove all oil with a towel prior to stropping and shaving.
